Accreditation Standards

New Accreditation Standards In Effect as of June 1, 2010

The 2010 CoARC Standards for the Profession of Respiratory Care has been adopted by the CoARC's sponsoring organizations:
the AARC, ATS, ACCP, and ASA.

Interpretive Guidelines for the 2010 Standards

The purpose of the
Interpretive Guidelines is to provide programs with specific information to facilitate the self-study review and on-site visit process and to assist programs in demonstrating their compliance with the 2010 Accreditation Standards for the Profession of Respiratory Care (Standards).

The ongoing review of the Standards is the responsibility of the Policies/Standards/Bylaws Committee. This Committee is responsible for review of the feedback obtained through surveys and other evaluation instruments to determine:

1.  The need for an immediate change to the Standards. If CoARC determines, at any point during its systematic program of review, that it needs to make changes to the Standards, CoARC will initiate action within 12 months to make the changes and will complete that action within a reasonable period of time. Before finalizing any changes to the Standards, CoARC will provide advance public notice of proposed new or revised Standards. CoARC will provide adequate opportunity for broad comment from the academic community and the public prior to adoption of proposed changes to CoARC Standards;

2.  Continued compliance with CHEA recognition criteria. CoARC will notify CHEA in writing of any changes in its policies, procedures, or accreditation standards which might alter CoARC's scope of recognition or its compliance with the CHEA;

3.  The need for a CoARC interpretation of a Standard or Standards. Such interpretations will be included in CoARC's Standards Interpretive Guide to be maintained on the CoARC Web site;

4.  The need for a change to any of CoARC's policies, procedures, or forms.

In the future, this web page will contain additional information about the Standards revision process.

Questions about the Standards and its review process should be sent to the Executive Director at tom@coarc.com.
